ആളുകൾ വരവായി. തെയ്യം കാണാൻ. വടക്കന്മാരുടെ തറവാട്ടു മുറ്റത്ത് ഞങ്ങളും ഇരിപ്പായി. അങ്ങിങ്ങായി കിടക്കുന്നു എന്ടെ ശരീരo- തെങ്ങിൻ കുരുത്തോലച്ചാർത്ത്, പാള, ലോഹം, മഷി, ചന്ദനം, മഞ്ഞൾ, കുങ്കുമം, അരി, കൌങ്ങിൻ തടികൾ, ചുവപ്പ് പട്ടുതുണികൾ, കടകം, തോട. മനസ്സിൻടെ ഭാരം മുടിയിലേന്തി മുഖവും മങ്ങി, പലരും നടക്കുന്നു. എന്നാൽ മനസ്സ് എന്തെന്നറിയാതെ വിശ്വാസത്തിന്ടെ കുളിർ കാറ്റിൽ കുട്ടികളൾ കൊതി തൊന്നും വിധം പാറിക്കളിക്കുന്നു. നാൽപ്പത്തൊന്ന് ദിവസത്തെ വ്രതത്തിന് ശേഷം എന്ടെ മനസ്സും എന്ടെ അരികിൽ ശാന്തനായി…

ഇത് കൊച്ചി. എന്നാൽ പഴയ കൊച്ചിയല്ല. ഇപ്പോളിവിടെ രാത്രി സഞ്ചരിച്ചാൽ തോന്നും പകലാണെന്ന്. റോഡിനിരുവശവും കൂറ്റൻ കെട്ടിടങ്ങൾ, കണ്ണഞ്ചിപ്പിക്കുന്ന വെളിച്ചം വിതറി മൽസരിക്കുന്നു. ജീവിതപ്പകലിന്റെ കുറവുകൾ നികത്താനെന്നപ്പോലെ. എവിടേയും ഹൈപർ മാർക്കറ്റുകൾ, മാളുകൾ. ഇടവിട്ടിടവിട്ട് കൂറ്റൻ കോൺക്രീറ്റ് കാലുകളിൽ മെട്രോ. അവ തലച്ചോറിലെ നാഡിവ്യൂഹങ്ങൾ പോലെ ജനയൊഴുക്കിൽ ത്രസിച്ചു നിൽക്കുന്നു. പഴയ ഓർമ്മക്കുറിപ്പുകളുടെ ഭണ്ഡാരക്കെണികൾ നുകർന്നുകൊണ്ടൊരു സമൂഹം. അവർ നീർവൃതി തേടി മണത്തു നുണഞ്ഞു നിൽക്കുന്നു. ആരോ പണിതീർത്ത പരീക്ഷണശാലകളിലെ എലികളെപ്പോലെ. ട്യൂബുകൾ അവയെ ഒരുവശത്തുനിന്നു…
