One who ponders the history of these plantations clearly sees a fourth river, much like the mystical Saraswathi flowing in a subtler dimension to join these three rivers. It is the river of plantation culture, itself being fed by several streams. Each one, the muduvans, the white ‘sahebs’, the tamil labour, the brown ‘sahebs’ and finally tourism, meandered into the mother stream in the firm belief that destiny was calling. They floated into the mother river with their own image of socio- cultural life as well as religion inherited from their ancestors over the centuries and deep rooted in their psyche. This image in a subtle way colours their instinct.
From that deep-rooted sense of belonging came the queries the children had for the quietly flowing Virippare aar (river).
