Presence of absence in man

Poet : Sudha C Prabhakar

Poem 1

Conspicuous was I
By my absence,
Ah, surely a sign,
I was much awaited!
For I had made my presence felt
And proved myself relevant
A definite force in need
Not to be ignored in deed!
My words and actions

Had spoken a volume-
I did make a niche Prominently to matter.

I cried my heart out
When others suffered
I lent my support
When others dithered
Sympathy and empathy
Twin forces that matter
Prominent by their absence
In today’s human presence
I filled out the void
Which made all the difference
I did live my life
In place of mere existence
So when I absented myself
It raised a huge concern
A point that was noted
And on all minds, well imprinted.
Yes, dear fellow travelers,
Make your presence so pertinent
That your absence is deeply felt
And the world stands up to bow
In reverence to your worthy presence!

Poem 2

Hey man!
Perched on the far away precipice
Hanging in a precarious bubble
Eyes fixed on the lofty clouds
Ohoi! Can you hear my voice?
Hark! I’m the voice of consciousness
Permeated in the whole of universe
I ought to be there in you, man,
But alas! Now I’m specter thin and almost gone!
Caught in the endless rat race
Poised ahead to win and conquer
Striding the winds of fame and success
Leaving behind all scruples in the process.
O man! Have you left your humanity behind
To dwell forever in that bubble?
Not a glance you cast around
As you lose sight of all aground!
Listen to your Mother born to nurture,
Who ought to be clad in lush green couture
Now, with ugly grey blotches scarred
Bereft of hope, stands sadly denuded.
My son, you are in the scheme of God’s great design
Didn’t He carve you in His own image ?
So, be aware of your presence and purpose
And come down to earth
Bearing His divine essence!
